Give Yourself Permission, Place, Priority, and Perseverance to Heal

Maybe you’re a Christian. Maybe you’ve been to a church service or a prayer line and had somebody speak healing words of life to you. Maybe you’ve already started down the healing path. Maybe there are lies that have popped up and gotten you off track: “You already got prayer, you don’t need anymore.”  “It’s not that big of a deal. Just get over it and move on.”  “You shouldn’t need all of this prayer, time, and attention if you’re really saved.” Whichever might apply to you, or even all apply, I’m going to encourage you to get plugged in and to keep going. I’m going to encourage you to give yourself permission, place, priority, and perseverance to heal. In Luke 4:18-19 , NKJV, Jesus tells us that He is the anointed one to preach the gospel: “get people saved.“ Then He continues to say, and heal the brokenhearted, set the captives free, bring sight to the blind, and set at liberty those who are oppressed. So if all of the difficulties of our life went away when we got saved, why does Jesus mention them?

Maybe there are lies that have popped up and gotten you off track: “You already got prayer, you don’t need anymore.”  “It’s not that big of a deal. Just get over it and move on.”  “You shouldn’t need all of this prayer, time, and attention if you’re really saved.”

Whichever might apply to you, or even all apply, I’m going to encourage you to get plugged in and to keep going.

We need to recognize and counter the lies that come against our healing and our freedom.

Give yourself permission to pursue your healing journey. You don’t need anybody else’s permission. You don’t need your pastor's permission. You don’t need your parents' permission. You don’t need your spouse's permission.

But you do need to give yourself permission. If you don’t give yourself permission, it will seem like a fight. Or a waste of time, or something that is too difficult or too expensive or taking too long. Part of giving yourself permission is realizing that Jesus wants this for you more than you do. It may be realizing that He thinks you are so valuable, so precious and important to Him, that He made away for your healing, for your heart to be whole, and your life to be full. So if you haven’t done so yet, take a minute and talk to yourself. Tell yourself that healing your heart is important and valuable. Tell yourself that you are important and valuable. Tell yourself that you can do what it takes to let Jesus bring the healing and restoration to your heart into your life so that you can walk in fullness and freedom!

Give yourself the place to heal. There may be people around you who are uncomfortable with the healing process. They may be people who caused you harm. They may be people who need healing themselves and aren’t ready yet. So you may need to find a safe place to walk this journey. My safe place when I started to walk this healing journey was in a group for other survivors of childhood sexual abuse and trauma. It was a place with other women who understood the complexities of the trauma. It was a place with other women who knew we did not have all the answers, but we were willing to come to Jesus together, to receive what He had for us. My safe place was not in my church fellowship. My safe place was not in my family. My safe place was not with my “girlfriends“. Part of the success of the framework that we teach lies in us helping to create a safe place in our individual coaching sessions, as well as in our group coaching sessions for you to process and receive healing that will bring freedom for life.

Give yourself priority access! Make pursuing healing a priority in your life. Pursuing healing may take more time than you would like. It may take more energy and effort than you would like. It may take more finances than you would like. But anything worth going after in life, will need to be a priority. So as you begin, or perhaps continue, on your healing journey, commit to yourself that you will make yourself and your healing journey a daily priority. That may look like simply thanking the Lord for the healing He has brought to you every day. That may mean carving out time to come to a group session, and committing to it on a weekly basis. That may mean forgoing a toxic family holiday to prioritize the healing and freedom in your life. That may mean skipping the lattes for a month so that you can afford the one on one session that will bring you understanding of the next step in your healing process. I prioritized the healing process by showing up to group sessions every Monday night for nine months. I then prioritized learning how to lead the sessions by showing up all summer to be equipped and receive further understanding and impartation in the process. Sit for a minute and make a commitment/decision on what you are willing to do to prioritize your healing journey.

Persevere in your healing journey. You’ve heard us talk about the life solutions framework. Maybe you’ve even seen the picture of it. Maybe you’ve heard us talk about the six fundamental pillars. Go back and look at it again! Get a vision- understanding - of the process of the healing journey. And make a commitment to yourself to persevere. To be a finisher! Don’t quit after you get a little bit of relief from healing the wounds. Don’t quit when you find a little breath of freedom after healing and releasing judgments. Don’t quit when people around you start behaving differently once you’ve released expectations. Don’t quit when you’ve received understanding of vows and released them and receive the understanding and blessings of being in right relationship with Jesus. Don’t be satisfied with only “part” of the healing process. Persevere through all of the healing process to receive the fullness and depth of freedom that will produce in you a freedom for life!

Walking this journey, this path to freedom, will have its ups and downs. It will have its highs and its lows. It will have its seasons of quick results and obvious fruit. It will also have its seasons that seem to drag on and answers seem difficult to find or to face. Today’s blog is an encouragement and reminder that it is worth the process when you give yourself permission to heal and continue on this journey, when you find a place that is safe and supportive, when you prioritize the healing and freedom that you desire, and when you’re willing to persevere in the process.

Know that the healing and the freedom for life will come! It is yours! It is the desire of Jesus' heart for you.

We hope that you will join us in this journey!
